Looking for a great venue to start the day with a smashed avo or just a simple coffee?

Cairns café Caffiend won silver, while Canberra’s Bunny Beans Café was presented with bronze.

The awards are organised through the Restaurant and Catering Industry Association, the peak body representing more than 75,000 hospitality venues in Australia.

Restaurants and cafés that have been trading for at least 12 months can nominate themselves for the state awards regardless of whether they are a member of the association.

On its website, the association said a trained judge reviewed all nominations and assessed them against a set of criteria.

That included service, food, beverage, staff, hygiene, restaurant presentation and the overall dining experience.

The winners of each state award move forward into the national awards.

South Australian businesses won six other awards at the 2023 awards night held in Sydney, including best function centre for Events at SkyCity.

Best Premium restaurant went to Sydney CBD’s Quay Restaurant, while best seafood restaurant went to Ormeggio at the Spit, also in Sydney.

A full list of winners in each category can be found here.
