With the silly season in full swing, many of us are waking up a little worse for wear.
But did you know eating asparagus before a big night out could help minimise your hangover?
An eagle-eyed shopper, believed to be from Canada, shared an image of a bunch of asparagus with label featuring a fun fact about the vegetable.

“Want to avoid a hangover? Eat asparagus!” the label read.
“Eating asparagus before you start drinking can help protect your liver.
“Its minerals and amino acids not only protect the liver from toxins, the enzymes in asparagus can help break down the alcohol and alleviate hangovers.”

The shopper shared the picture on Facebook, with the caption: “Who knew? Just in time for the festive season”.
The post was met with more than 235,000 “likes” and over 50,000 comments.
“I need to test this out,” one said.
Another suggested: “Oh wow… I needed this yesterday!”
According to a 2012 study, researchers from the Institute of Medical Science and Jeju National University in South Korea found the amino acids and minerals in asparagus extract may ease hangovers and protect liver cells against the toxins in alcohol.
“Cellular toxicities were significantly alleviated in response to treatment with the extracts of asparagus leaves and shoots,” lead researcher B.Y. Kim said.
“These results provide evidence of how the biological functions of asparagus can help alleviate alcohol hangover and protect liver cells.”
Asparagus has many potential health benefits as it provides a good source of vitamins and minerals, fibre and antioxidants.
